Favorite Films: The Correct Choices
I decided I would take it easy with this next blog. With my last blog describing a busy time in my life and the one before that showcasing some pretty dark films, it's only fair to put out something easier to read. Less words. Lighter, fewer thoughts. Just movies. These are some films I would just label as "correct." It isn't controversial about saying these are 5 out of 5s. They are just amazing. Plain and simple. I am going to attempt to not make this list not too boring

Favorite Films: Unseen and Unseeing
A new favorites list! It has been a while since I have returned to this blog topic that is supposed to be reoccurring. There are just so many fascinating things all of the time that I absolutely have to talk about. When I was looking at my list of 5/5s on Letterboxd, I felt that these films all go together, even if it doesn't quite make sense at first. I know this title is incredibly vague, but it will make sense in due time. Image from Children on Men. Unseen: Children on Me

If You Gave a LLM a Cookie
Listen, I have to say this before I get into the rest of the blog because morally I have to come clean. I can't lie. I use GenAI, mainly for coding. Do I particularly like it? No. Do I understand it's purpose and use? Yes. If you are already against GenAI, please hear me out. Yes, I know it is environmentally terrible and we need to do something about it. But I am not the person to provide that knowledge, or make significant change. I want change, but I cannot give it. I wro

Supergirl Forgot the Girl Part
I watched Supergirl recently and I had a lot of thoughts as a girl in college and who grew up with superheroes. I was incredibly disappointed, not because the movie was bad, but rather it had the potential to be a love letter to my demographic. Warning, there will be spoilers ahead. Supergirl and Mental Health At the end of James Gunn's Superman, everyone got the impression that Supergirl was gonna be a little messy, chaotic, but a whole lot of fun. Upon watching the movie it

AI in Film isn’t Just Insulting to Me as a Filmmaker, but as a Computer Scientist
The 2025 Oscars had a lot of controversies, to say the least. The most striking being the inclusion of work assisted by AI, specifically The Brutalist and Emilia Pérez. Now, the Academy has made its stance official: films that use AI are eligible for Oscar nominations and wins. While the Academy may not find AI concerning, many people think otherwise, myself included. A photo from the Snatch’D set. How Did They Use AI? The Brutalist used AI to generate drawings of brutalist

Reboot the Film Industry, Not the Avengers….Again
There are around 40,000 screens in movie theaters across the U.S. today. Movie theaters have to play something on them to earn money, but why does it feel like the movies featured are always from IP (intellectual property)? Well, because they usually are. As of writing, when I look at my local movie theaters and the available wide-release films, eleven films come from IP. You wait until the end of the month, and there are three more (see the bottom for the list). This is an
