Double the Fun?
I saw my most recent double feature with my friend and upcoming film club treasurer Riley Wilson '28. Everyone has been providing their thoughts and commentary on the rise in sex movies this summer. We saw two of them. If you are curious about my thoughts before the movie released about the two films we watched check out my blog titled, "My Most Anticipated Releases for the Rest of 2026." The Other Sex Movies I Didn't Double Feature Returnning to the sex movies topic, do I k

Favorite Films: The Correct Choices
I decided I would take it easy with this next blog. With my last blog describing a busy time in my life and the one before that showcasing some pretty dark films, it's only fair to put out something easier to read. Less words. Lighter, fewer thoughts. Just movies. These are some films I would just label as "correct." It isn't controversial about saying these are 5 out of 5s. They are just amazing. Plain and simple. I am going to attempt to not make this list not too boring

Leading a Film Festival
Throughout my career at Furman I have always tried to do more. Although we don't have a film major here, I still try to make my mark and prove that film at this school matters. It has been a little over a year since I had become attached to work on the second annual Furman University Film Festival and it feels weird, but in a good way. There were some rough patches from this project, but nothing will be able to top the high of getting to interact with people around South Car

Favorite Films: Unseen and Unseeing
A new favorites list! It has been a while since I have returned to this blog topic that is supposed to be reoccurring. There are just so many fascinating things all of the time that I absolutely have to talk about. When I was looking at my list of 5/5s on Letterboxd, I felt that these films all go together, even if it doesn't quite make sense at first. I know this title is incredibly vague, but it will make sense in due time. Image from Children on Men. Unseen: Children on Me

Double Trouble
I had another double feature (forever ago), but I figured I would still do a blog about it. I may not remember all of the details, but it was still a fun time. I find it super important to remember the good times, especially when you are alone, which is often what I have been doing with my double features this summer. First, I went to Chick-fil-A. Inside, I read Hamlet, a required reading for my upcoming study away. This leads me to a quick mini-rant. Anywhere Can Be Your Co

My Summer So Far
This is my first and last summer I have been on Furman's campus the entire time. I have worked two jobs, taken a class, spent time with my Dad, connected back with an old friend, made new friends, and continued hobbies. It's been quite eventful, so I wouldn't say I have really had a favorite moment. These will be some of the highlights. I work as a summer RA (resident assistant), and I do summer research with Dr. Drucker. Some of the perks of being a summer RA are free food

If You Gave a LLM a Cookie
Listen, I have to say this before I get into the rest of the blog because morally I have to come clean. I can't lie. I use GenAI, mainly for coding. Do I particularly like it? No. Do I understand it's purpose and use? Yes. If you are already against GenAI, please hear me out. Yes, I know it is environmentally terrible and we need to do something about it. But I am not the person to provide that knowledge, or make significant change. I want change, but I cannot give it. I wro

Supergirl Forgot the Girl Part
I watched Supergirl recently and I had a lot of thoughts as a girl in college and who grew up with superheroes. I was incredibly disappointed, not because the movie was bad, but rather it had the potential to be a love letter to my demographic. Warning, there will be spoilers ahead. Supergirl and Mental Health At the end of James Gunn's Superman, everyone got the impression that Supergirl was gonna be a little messy, chaotic, but a whole lot of fun. Upon watching the movie it

My Most Anticipated Releases for the Rest of 2026
Let's just dive into this. There's a lot to cover. Here's a top 10 list. Expect a description of why I am excited, promotional materials (if any available), and release date. Once you are done, let me know yours! The Invite directed by Olivia Wilde Release: July 10, 2026 Why: I love the cast. It is just so eclectic. Films that Made Me Cry
We are getting specific now. This one is less prompt-based than my previous film blogs. I wanted to delve into this because I don’t tend to cry at movies. I’m not unemotional or anything, I just can’t really do it for the most part. It isn’t that I don’t connect with the films or characters. I just don’t cry at movies. As a warning, many of the films contain suicide, or suicidal elements. Please take time and care before deciding to watch. Image from The Iron Claw. The Iron C

How I Double Feature
A double feature. A cost and time-effective way to watch movies. You may think it is a waste. “Why watch two in one day? You’re wasting so much time?” Au contraire, mon frère, it is actually quite the opposite. Here are some reasons: You only have to go to the movie theater and leave the movie theater one time. It helps you block out time. That day, you're booked. That's it. Reserve that time for yourself, or whoever you plan on attending the movies with. It reduces the need/

Delving Into More of My 5/5s
I wanted to continue the series of talking about some of my favorite films, more specifically 5/5s. I’m gonna be looking through my Letterboxd and I'll use this ranked format with prompts to share some recommendations. Some popular, some not so much. Most of these, however, are very popular, but maybe you just haven’t gotten around to them…hopefully? Surely there are some that you haven’t seen yet, and this will inspire you to tune in. Like I said in my other favorites post,

29 Films, 36 Pages, 1 Research Paper
For my Sociology major, we have to complete a year-long research course. I decided to take it my junior year because I found out about a study-away opportunity during the spring of my sophomore year (which I am now accepted into and will be even be updating you on). That meant I could not take it my senior year. So I had to lock in, work hard, and complete a project. And I did just that and I am proud of it too! Step 1. Choosing a Project (and a Partner) Entering the course,

"What's Your Letterboxd Top 4?"
I have seen too many films–I mean, there’s no such thing really–but last year I watched 150, the year before a grand total of 270 films, and this year I am sitting at 94 so far (granted some I was kind of tuned out for, like Ouija Shark but that's besides the point). The thing is, I don’t use my Letterboxd four favorites in the traditional sense, and although I love the films, I wouldn’t say they are the most defining of who I am. (Well maybe one of them, but no spoilers.) I

It Matters Not What Your Film Club Does For You
The Furman school year 25-26 was my first year as Furman Film Club's President after serving as Vice President and co-founder the previous year. I had such a great time building connections, planning and executing new events, and pushing ourselves to be a more prominent figure on campus. But what I am really proud of are the memories that will last a lifetime. One of our last events was the Furman University Film Festival, but I will save that for one of the next posts, so ke

Making the Right Writing Decision Every Day
I don’t know about you, but in my personal experience and talking to my peers, a common way of expressing creative thoughts is with a creativity word-vomit session. Writing and writing till your fingers grow numb and then the well dries up. There’s nothing to be found for days, months, who knows how long? It is just dead end after dead end. After taking a screenwriting course with Professor Geoffrey Gunn, he emphasized that one of the most important things to take from this

Look, Mom, I Have a Website!
Having my name big and bold on a website I created is a pretty great feeling. Knowing the time and effort I put into this makes this special. I can easily link this website as obvious proof that I did, in fact, not only complete a project, but a large, daunting one, is amazing. What I Did I knew I wanted it to look at least vaguely pink and at least vaguely green, so I really started with the color palette (see my "About Me" style article). I also knew I wanted to use the fon

Creating Columbia, SC's New Home for Indie Film
Filmmakers David Axe and Christopher Bickel noticed a problem, a big problem. Before Axe founded the Babylon Kino, there was and is an independent theater in this region–The Nickelodeon; however, it isn’t showing local filmmakers' work. In fact, they are flat out refusing to. If the independent theater isn’t supporting the independent filmmakers, then who is? Until now, no one. The door to the Babylon Kino at 631 Harden St. Ste. i, Columbia, SC 29205. My First Trailer is What Finally Made it Feel Real
The trailer to my debut short film Snatch’D. I had been procrastinating and procrastinating making a trailer for my short film. I mean, it’s only 5 minutes, why does it need one?...It needs one. After talking to the professor who helped me make Snatch’D (2025) in the first place, Geoffrey Gunn, I realized my time to put it off was running out. I finished this trailer after being accepted in a film festival, and an honorable mention at another. I realized I put this off not

AI in Film isn’t Just Insulting to Me as a Filmmaker, but as a Computer Scientist
The 2025 Oscars had a lot of controversies, to say the least. The most striking being the inclusion of work assisted by AI, specifically The Brutalist and Emilia Pérez. Now, the Academy has made its stance official: films that use AI are eligible for Oscar nominations and wins. While the Academy may not find AI concerning, many people think otherwise, myself included. A photo from the Snatch’D set. How Did They Use AI? The Brutalist used AI to generate drawings of brutalist
