Look, Mom, I Have a Website!

Having my name big and bold on a website I created is a pretty great feeling. Knowing the time and effort I put into this makes this special. I can easily link this website as obvious proof that I did, in fact, not only complete a project, but a large, daunting one, is amazing.
What I Did
I knew I wanted it to look at least vaguely pink and at least vaguely green, so I really started with the color palette (see my "About Me" style article). I also knew I wanted to use the font I separately use for my name, so I made that a focal point for my About section, which really set the tone.
I wanted (and hope) this website is very user-friendly, designed well, and easy to navigate because I aspire to work in Human UX. They say dress for the job you want, so I hope I dressed it well. Although I did not personally use HTML and CSS to make this website, I did self-study those two languages earlier this summer. I really love front-end design work.
I also wanted a place to showcase my best social media graphic design work. I had a personal film reviewing TikTok account, and I currently run the Furman GirlsWhoCode social media. I have certainly gained skills from these projects. I wanted to have a portfolio, and this was the perfect opportunity.
Lastly, I wanted a place to combine my computer science and film passions, so I can show off both because often, they intersect for me. For example, my first film project had a fake app design in it–that showcases both of my interests. I now even have a separate general resume and film resume as a result of the creation of this website.

What Did I Learn From It and What Now?
This project instilled confidence in me that the route I’m on is right. I enjoyed every second of building this website, and I’m gonna enjoy uploading more blogs and editing this for mobile. I cannot wait to keep doing this and to take Human Centered Design with Dr. Tartaro.
My interests in Computer Science began and still seem different than most. I enjoy the ethical and social issues that come with AI and technology. I have had other computer science students outright say they don’t care about the ethics.
I enjoy the hex codes, heuristics, and making a website fun! I often see men in computer science praise back-end and degrade front-end. I’m sure everything online would be so engaging without front-end work (I hope you read my sarcasm). Front-end work is a necessity, even when peers demean it. This website helped prove that to me. What’s the point of a website if no one wants to be on it? Now, I just want to jump back into learning more CSS, HTML, and just make more!
