As a filmmaker, it is crucial to establish your online presence early. I grew up with the internet, and I know this all too well. I’m constantly bombarded with stories of big breaks from YouTube or TikTok, but I’m also bombarded with #canceled and #xyzisoverparty.

The internet is powerful, and there are many careers we would have never seen without it; however, there are many careers that are gone because of it. It’s important to keep up with the next big thing, but it’s even more important to have a well-established and thought-out online identity, because it will come back to bite you, time and time again. I curated this online identity by looking at who I was, talking with friends, and reflecting on who I am now.

The Great Big Beautiful Google

Before I started curating my online brand for this website, I knew two things.

  1. I need to change my IMDb name.

  2. I need to delete some old accounts.

For a long, long time, my parents tried to sell me on the name Alex Rae Raileanu. I love them, but no. It just feels too personal because I constantly associate it with them, besides the fact that I already billed myself on Snatch’D (2025), my debut short film, as Alex Raileanu. I had a previous IMDb credit for acting in a short film as a kid, so I had to update my name. Alex just simply feels more me. It’s to the point, and it helps complement my hard last name.

There were also two accounts looming online from when I was less than thirteen years old: a Facebook and a Pinterest, both of which were highly embarrassing. They weren’t necessarily bad, but they obviously were not representative of who I am now at twenty. So, goodbye old social media accounts, you won't be missed! I'd like to thank the delete button at this time.

Defining Myself

It is hard to really capture a summary of yourself in a photo, text, or any other medium. Knowing and being friends with yourself can be so difficult. I would say I am someone with drive who loves to consume and create film. I find the social issues surrounding technology interesting, and I aspire to work in Human-UX design, go to film school, and become a feature-length filmmaker.

I am a pretty relaxed person. I love grunge, metal, and pop music. I hate early mornings and the smell of gasoline. I can be uncomfortable in new social situations, but I will try. When I’m comfortable, I am having a blast. Others’ opinions reflect similarly to mine, that I am ambitious, quirky, creative, thoughtful, understanding, and friendly. Ultimately, I am just someone who laughs a little too loud, carries around headphones wherever I go, and loves saying Hi to people. Lastly, I hope fellow filmmakers and lovers will stick around to read the rest of this.

What I Like and Why I Like It

One thing you will notice about this website is that it is pink. I love the color pink. If you cannot tell, my hair is pink. Embarrassingly enough, the final push for me to dye it that color was Joan of Arc from Clone High when I watched it in 2023. I dyed it that year and I haven’t gone back since. Pink has been a part of my college experience with friends identifying me across crowded rooms because of it, Halloween costumes, and more. I also felt it as a way to reclaim femininity, and I love its contrast with my passion for horror.

Although admittedly underutilized on the website so far, I also love green. Not only does the color combination remind me of technology, which is perfect as it represents my IT major, but it also reminds me of Tecna from Winx, who had technology powers and was very feminine. Her colors were mainly pink, purple, and green. I also love the 1990s and early 2000s, so I enjoy anything reminiscent of it. Overall, though, I like anything edgy and fun. I sort of think to myself What would Fiona Apple and Lady Gaga do?

Well, You Met Me

Although one website cannot perfectly capture who I am as a person and all the things I love and am passionate about, I am pretty close visually. You can make pretty accurate, general assumptions about me from here, and I hope they’re good ones! The internet is permanent. In the journey to delete my Pinterest, I found my first active AOL email. Things don’t particularly get deleted, and what I have right now can stay indefinitely, and I would be happy about it.
